Early Years and Growth
In 1904, Lena Bryant opened the first Lane Bryant store in New York, New York. It was the first clothing retailer in the U.S. to focus on women's plus-size apparel.
In 1931, E. Maurice Labovitz opened the first maurices store in Duluth, Minnesota.
In 1960, Catherine Weaver opened the first Catherins store in Memphis, Tennessee.
In 1962, Roslyn Jaffe, opened the first dressbarn store on Stamford, Connecticut.
In 1963, dressbarn opened its second store.
In the 1990's Lane Bryant started to revamp its brand in an effort to become the industry leader in plus-size women's apparel.
